About the Author

Lisa Sun is a recent Harvard Business School graduate and currently works as a Senior Associate at a secondary private equity firm in New York City. After studying International Studies and Business in the Huntsman Program at the University of Pennsylvania, Lisa worked in investment banking at Goldman Sachs in New York and private equity at TPG in Hong Kong.

For her MBA summer internship, Lisa worked in management consulting at McKinsey And Company. Lisa’s passion is to help others succeed in their professional life. She was the Co-Captain of the University of Pennsylvania’s recruiting team at Goldman Sachs and the Co-Head of Career Representatives at Harvard Business School.

Brief, shallow, strange

This is a very brief and shallow book. If I had purchased the hard copy for $15, I would return it. I bought the Kindle version for little more than half that.

Example: What should you read as research to prepare for the interviews?
Vault guides, the book "Goldman Sachs: Culture of Success", company website and do a google search for recent news.
Did I need this book to tell me that?

As for interview questions, the author cites several very standard industry-wide questions and then suggests you buy the Vault guide for more detail.

I give two stars rather than one star because I think that this IS a fine OUTLINE of the things to think about.
But that's about it.

Notice that all the 5 and 4 star reviews (at this time) only review this one book or only review this plus other books by the same publisher. Odd.

I am going to be very wary of future titles coming out of Hyperink. Sigh.

Great Book on GS Investment Banking

After going through a few other guide books on investment banking, I found this book to be the most comprehensive in terms of covering all aspects of the recruiting process, including research, networking, resume/cover letter, interviews and on-the-job advice. It's an easy read, so it should be helpful for those that are starting the process of applying to investment banks and Goldman Sachs and want some quick, actionable tips that they can use immediately. It's not super detailed, so you won't be bogged down by specifics that doesn't apply to your situation. I think everything in this book could be helpful for everyone at some point in the process of applying for an internship or full-time position.

This book is predominantly focused on investment banking so if you're considering other divisions, you may want to supplement this reading with something more targeted to other divisions (like capital markets or sales & trading). This book does give you some insights into the Goldman Sachs culture that would be helpful for your general GS interview/discussion. Also have some info on compensation in case you're curious what high-flying ibankers are earnings.

Overall, I recommend this book as a "first read" for anyone that's considering a career in banking or Goldman Sachs.

Quick but empowering read

If you're tired of pages and pages of "job-hunting tips" that don't seem to get you anywhere, you probably would like to try out this one. The contents are succinct - it guides you through the whole recruitment process (from pre-application research to getting the offer) as well as the goldman culture (thus what to expect on the job).

Unlike some other works that may focus on a long list of example questions, this book offers you the right way of thinking which would propel you in getting sufficient preparation - I was inspired while reading through the pages and started mind-mapping the steps to take after finishing this book in order to prepare for my interviews. Another amazing thing is that this book only takes you around an hour that I actually almost finished it in 2 subway rides.

One last thing, I think there's no better way to get to know a company than asking someone who worked there - and this is exactly what this book offers - so isn't it a no-brainer to spend a little time on this before the recruitment process?

A beautiful struggle

This is a very rich guide to the ruins of Pompeii. The author is, without doubt, a scholar of distinction. The reconstructive drawings are second to none. The layout of the book is beautiful. However, as an introduction to the subject, the book is a struggle. The writing is often turgid, burdened with unnecessary archaeological terminology: The hip bone is connected to the peristyle, the peristyle is connected to the pronaos, the pronaos is connected to the portico, the chalcidicum is connected to the knee bone.... The glossary at the end of the book is hopelessly inadequate - a mere afterthought. The publishers would do well to study the DK Pulishing model and invest the book with a few introductory pages explaining the vast terminology employed throughout the work with architectural diagrams and arrows. It might then be a masterpiece.

Ana C. Jarvis, a native of Paraguay, was born in Asuncion and attended school in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She received her Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of California, Riverside, in 1973. The book has been delivered in good state. The book is particularly useful for including the guidelines for the video, which so far has been impossible to order from here!

It is a pity that this series of textbooks, like all publications by Houghton Mifflin in general, are so hard to find in Europe, since they are extremely well structured and ideal especially for the curriculum of international schools, or schools offering the IB programme.

The order in which the book teaches is great!

The components of the book are in a sequential order that is easy to follow and understand. Actually, I have only completed through Chapter 7, but I will be finishing the book next semester and I'm sure it will be as clear as the first portion. The book also has a great deal of reinforcements for each area.

Excellent Illustrated overview

Worthy addition to the LIR series. As a clinician who deals with aberrant mitotic cells I was looking for a book which would provide me with a quick & easy overview of the field. I wish I had this book when I was in med school. It nicely complements the classic LIR Biochemistry. Easy to read and profusely illustrated.

A great book! But for medical school? I hope not.

I purchased this review book to help me study for my Cell and Molecular biology class and it did just that, it was a great review book. It carries the most important points, in a small amount of detail, with great pictures so you can begin to see the activity of a cell as a whole.

It served its purpose for me but, on a tangent, I can't imagine how this is a suitable review book for medical school. The biochemistry lippincott's sure, that thing has 500 pages packed with detail. This one is not nearly as detailed as the lippincott's biochemistry review.

It's a great review tool for undergraduate courses. For medical school, which these are often used for, it might be great too but I'd like to think anyone in medical school knows the amount of cell and molecular biology contained in this book cold.

Really nice concise intro to cell & molecular biology and at the same time a review. It's great for engineers who are willing to delve into these and related subjects but are scared of the large volumes of other books.
