The complete range of essential knowledge has been brought together by the author, including virtually everything that one needs to know to select, house, feed, breed and identify common problems with this fascinating group of South American rodents. A Health Check Sheet gives degu lovers an easy table of signs to look for that suggest medical problems, but this manual is really about how to prevent them.
The emphasis of this book is on understanding and nurturing your degu. Since much of caring for unfamiliar pets revolves around knowing what is normal, Dr. Vanderlip has taken particular care to describe, in simple detail, the expected norms, such as how degus look and act from birth to adulthood, and what do they do when they feel good. I'm not a fan of this book...

We've been using it in my Spanish conversation class and honestly, I think it's an assembly of pretty pages with no real content. Even the online homework isn't at all challenging. Maybe I just have a vendetta against learning a language out of a book, but I don't think this is a very good overview. I'd rather talk for extended periods of time and have a tiny little grammar manual to reference and learn about what I'm using. This book seemed out of order, and the topics covered in cultural sections are for the most part pretty uninteresting. Not a fan.

A Pleasing Communcation Book

I am only on the 3rd Chapter of this book, but my experience so far is that it keeps things simple. If you have a professor who facilitates a lot of one on one or group conversation in the classroom, this is a good book to use. It fills in the simple gaps; for example, in a conversation, you may not know, or forgot, how to say, "What did you say?." The answer is "Como dice?" The book reviews essentials (Claves=keys) like this that you need to know to be able to effectively communicate.

Just a heads up that if you want a book with an access code it's not worth it to pay for the new one because it doesn't come with one anyway. I made the mistake of buying this book new because I believed it would have an access code...now I have to spend an extra $40.

A surprisingly crisp, informative, and lovely catalogue

For those expecting to receive a high quality catalogue of the British Museum's Rosetta Stone exhibition, you will not be disappointed. But as an added bonus, the essays are not pedantic and dull, but eloquent and informative. They detail not only the finding of the stone and its impact on Egyptology, but also include chapters on the development of the Ancient Egyptian language, the scripts, tools used to write, and the ways in which these reflect the Egyptian world view.
Richard Parkinson's writing style makes this a joy to read! I would recommend it not only to those interested in the exhibit (the photos are of excellent quality), but those interested in Ancient Egyptian language and Egypt in general.

most informative book ever published on the Rosetta Stone

This book was written as an accompanying extract to a British Museum exhibit celebrating the bicentenary of its discovery, and accurately presents the important Rosetta Stone. This is achieved by means of outlining the Stone's history, controversy around its discovery and its deciphering which gave the key to understanding the hieroglyphs. Using this as his starting point, the author continues to explore the role, power and importance of writing in Ancient Egypt as well as its many aspects (such as scribes and the tools used) and its relation to art. Other decipherments (Linear B and Meroitic) are also considered in this book. Readable, enjoyable and very informative, accompanied by black & white illustrations, it is recommended for anyone interested in the Ancient Egyptian language.

I've been obsessed with the French Revolution since I was a little girl. I spent all my time at fifth grade science camp pestering the counselors, asking them when I'd get to study Marie Antoinette and Robespierre and Charlotte Corday. I always knew I'd write something set during this period, and I know I'll revisit the characters in this book again.
A Vampire in Versailles is a hard book for me to describe. It's part paranormal romance, part historical epic, part horror, part dark fantasy. It doesn't fit entirely within any of these genres, but it has elements of each. I tried to make Jean-Gabriel someone you'd love to root for, despite his murderous proclivities. In Marguerite, I tried to create a young woman who could hold Jean-Gabriel's attention, but who is brave and inspiring in her own right. There's a whole world these characters are just beginning to explore. I'm excited to see where they take me. I hope you feel the same!

Jenni Wiltz writes mysteries, thrillers, paranormal romance, and romantic suspense. In 2011, she won the Romance Writers of America Kiss of Death Chapter's Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Category Romantic Suspense. Her short stories have appeared in The Portland Review, Gargoyle, and the Sacramento News & Review. She's worked as an editor, a copywriter, and a USAID grant program coordinator, which gave her the opportunity to travel to Kenya. When she's not writing, she enjoys sewing, running, and genealogical research. She lives in Pilot Hill, California.

Delicious, dense writing, like a perfect french silk chocolate pie

Wiltz writes about a wide variety of subjects, but historical fiction is her forte. Whether writing about the politics of the Versailles under the Sun King or post cold war spy thriller retrospectives in Russia, her stories are thick and rich and dense with details. She is a cunning writer, luring the reader in with interesting ideas and then playing with perspective and history until the story is inescapable and the reader is compelled to finish no matter what the clock says.

Yes, this is a vampire story, but it's equally a well-written and, er, delicious, story of the French Revolution.

I love this book. I like fiction literature about vampires and things of that nature but I was getting tired of the ones that glitter, if you know what I mean, and this book finally put a modern edge on vampires without the sparkles and without being completely archaic. I loved it. You can read this book without feeling like you read the same thing before in the same genre. Its definitely what you want to read if you're looking for a good book that will keep you wanting more of it and not leave you feeling like you wasted your time. READ IT!!!

My son bought this book using my account. Here is his review: I recently purchased the Canon camera and was having trouble learning to use it. I have a learning disability and Mom recommended this book saying it would be easier for me to read. It is very easy to read and easy to understand for beginning photographers, especially ones with learning disabilities. After using the camera (I absolutely love it), and getting stuck on something, I go to the book to get help and suggestions and so far I have always found answers to the questions I needed help with. It is very informative for beginners and has more information than I will be able to absorb in a year's time. But believe you me, I am having a ball learning!!! I very, very highly recommend this book to a beginning photographer, with or without a learning disability!! It is detailed enough when I need the details but also has illustrations of what it is talking about which greatly enhances the teaching for me. It is amusing and holds interest very well. Get this book to go with your new camera and then later after learning the basics about your new camera, get a more advanced one if you want or need it. That's what I am going to do and am having a fabulous time doing it.

I haven't come close to reading the entire book, but so far it is just fabulous to flip through as I learn about my new T3i. You get technical info as well as tips in a down to earth, super readable format. Great pictures to illustrate the info as well. A must buy if you have the T3i!

Must Have!!

Like most people, point & shoot has been our primary choice of camera (aside from cell phone) for the last 5+ years at a minimum. I purchased this book for my wife to help her get a better understanding of all the features of the T3i I purchased her for Christmas. This book is amazing! It lays out everything in easy to understand writing. I used to shoot 35mm in high school & knew a lot about setting f-stop, shutter speed, etc. But, this book so easily explains everything in simple terms, helping me even get back into the fun of owning a more professional camera.

I would recommend this book as a MUST HAVE to anyone who purchases a T3i (or even those that do already own & want to go that extra step inside the depths of their Canon T3i's capabilities)!!
